Two Different Questions
One line carries two kinds of interface problem, an order of magnitude apart in difficulty. Separate them before anything else:

Why Temperature Compensation Becomes Critical
On the earlier duties the phases sit two to three hundred m/s apart and a few m/s of thermal drift is noise. At seventy-odd m/s it is not:
- Both products have nearly the same coefficient (−3.5 to −4 m/s per °C), so temperature does not spread the bands the way it does for oil and water — it translates them together
- The built-in Pt1000 reads at the same place as the acoustic path, which decides the result here: the further the temperature point from the path, the more the compensation is a guess
- Seasonal swing (a dozen degrees between winter and summer line temperature) belongs in the threshold table, not in a single ambient band
What It Does Not Do
- No custody transfer. That is density and flow — PS7400 tuning fork and PS7200 Coriolis
- No interface volume. It gives the moment the interface arrives, not how long the mixed slug is
- No grade-to-grade calls within one product (two diesel grades, say). Those can be a dozen m/s apart, under the floor; scheduling records and a density meter do that job
Against Density-Based Interface Detection
Density is the established method here and it works — but on oil against oil it is just as tight: diesel and kerosene differ by about 0.04 g/cm³, near 5 % relative, the same order as the 5.6 % relative velocity gap. Both routes need site measurement; neither is exempt. The real decision is installation: a station that already runs an inline densitometer has no reason to add a second instrument for interfaces, while a point that needs both water slugs and batch interfaces, or where an insertion fitting is awkward, is easier with a spool.
To quote this duty we need: the product or solvent list in switching order, the temperature range of each, line size and pressure class, area classification, where the measuring point sits (inlet, outlet, ahead of tankage) and whether an inline density meter is already installed. Send 500 mL of each medium and we will measure a table at your line temperature.
